It’s so easy to fall into a smoothie rut. You tend to use the same old ingredients with the same old protein powder and, before you know it, you’re bored and looking for something else to snack on and your healthy intentions start to fall by the wayside.
I’ll admit, this is where I was recently and it was clear that it was time to mix things up with my morning smoothie routine. I’m so glad I did! This Share the Love smoothie is delicious. I feel great and I know my body is better off with the nutrition it needs. I’m so fired up, I decided to share the love with you in hopes that this delicious smoothie reinvigorates and refuels your healthy living aspirations!
How I Mixed Up MY Smoothie
1. New Protein Powder Flavor
I am a huge fan of vanilla protein powder and today I used chocolate. I know that is a very simple shift to make, but it made all the difference in the world! In addition to switching flavors, you can also look at switching protein bases. I’ve been a huge fan of the Skinny Shake™ products lately because they have a mix of protein sources: plant and a bit of whey. This makes it rich, creamy, and much yummier than most of my 100% plant-based protein powders.
2. I Popped in a New Berry
Blueberries have always been my go-to berry in my smoothies, and for good reason. They are an antioxidant powerhouse, but so are other berries! I had a box of raspberries in the freezer, so I popped those in the blender instead and they are a delicious compliment to the chocolate and have more than two times the fiber as my normal berry.
3. I Used a New Superfood Ingredient
In addition to my regular ground flax, I added hemp hearts to this smoothie because I like the texture and adding healthy fat to your smoothies is always a good idea. Hemp hearts have a mild, nutty flavor and are made of over 30% fat, which makes them exceptionally rich in two essential fatty acids, linoleic acid (omega-6) and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3). They also contain gamma-linolenic acid.
4. Not Everything Went in the Blender
They say you should always chew your food even if it’s a liquid so you can get maximum absorption, which always feels a little weird. However, the act of chewing stimulates digestive enzymes so you can get the most out of your food. If you can add a little crunch to your smoothie, it makes it feel way less weird. This is why I don’t blend in the hemp hearts. The raspberry seeds (and all their fiber) provide extra crunch too. Not only does this help absorption, it can also help you slow down consumption, increasing satiation—a huge factor in overeating.
Share the Love Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie Recipe:
1 handful Greens
½ cup frozen or fresh raspberries
½ frozen Banana
1 scoop Belgian Chocolate Skinny Shake™ powder
¼ tsp cinnamon
1 T ground flax seeds
½ cup ice
2 cups filtered water
1 T hemp hearts
Nutrition: 353 calories, 11g fat, 18g fiber, 17g sugar, 24.3g protein.
Directions: Add all ingredients to the blender in the order listed in ingredients list except the hemp hearts. Blend on low for 20 seconds, then increase to high for an additional 30 seconds. Add the hemp hearts. Top with extra raspberries (optional), stir and enjoy!
This smoothie really was amazing. The Skinny Shake™ protein powder is so creamy, you would almost think this is “bad” for you simply because it is that delicious. The crunchiness from the raspberry seeds and the hemp hearts makes it a different experience and actually makes your smoothie more nutritious, too. All around, it’s a win!
